Meet
our Doctor!
Dr. William Cuthbertson is the fifth member of his family to enter optometry. Born and raised in Atlanta, he graduated from the Westminster Schools and Kennesaw University (B.S. magna cum laude). He received his Doctorate in Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1987, and is a member of Gold Key National Honor Society.
Dr. Cuthbertson first practiced for eight years in Marietta Georgia in his father's large group practice, concentrating on eye disease treatment and difficult contact lens evaluations and management. Appointments in Georgia included Clinical Director of Low Vision at the Blind and Low Vision Services of North Georgia, where he received a Distinguished Service Award in 1991. He also served as Medical Advisory Chair of Prevent Blindness Georgia, directing sight saving programs and vision screenings for school children and the needy. In 1992, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Marietta City school system.
In 1994, Dr. Cuthbertson moved to Franklin and opened Grassland Eyecare. As the practice grew and luxury eyewear lines were added, he moved to a larger office and renamed the practice Eyedentity. For 14 years, he has concentrated on a small office personal service oriented approach to Eyecare, where highest-quality, integrity, advanced knowledge, and a caring touch encompass his core values. Some prominent appointments in Tennessee include Past President of the Middle Tennessee Optometric Association, State Chairman for Vision USA, and former Trustee of the Tennessee Optometric Association. He has been inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, and has twice received the Optometric Recognition Award from the American Optometric Association for Excellence in Continuing Education.
On a local level, Dr. Cuthbertson feels very strongly about giving back to his community. He has always been involved in assisting local schools, service organizations, and churches with meeting their benevolent eyecare requests. He regularly examines and provides free glasses for referrals from “Closer to Home”, Franklin Lion’s Club, The People’s Church, My Sister's House, Phoebe’s House and many other care organizations. He is also in his second year of a very successful program with Graceworks Ministries called “Our Master’s Eyes”, and where Eyedentity has donated over $10,000. in exam services and glasses for those in need in Williamson County.
On a personal level, Dr. Cuthbertson has been married for 20 years, and is the father of three young boys. Any spare time is spent with family in Boy Scouts, team sports, school involvement, Sunday School, and Church. He loves any family activities, boating, swimming, bicycling, and family hikes.
