Meet our Doctor!

Dr. William Cuthbertson is the fifth member of his family to enter optometry. Originally from Atlanta, he graduated from the Westminster Schools, Kennesaw University (magna cum laude, Gold Key), and Southern College of Optometry. He is among the first optometrists in the country to receive a Diplomate in the American Board of Optometry, and is a twenty year Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry. He was the first optometrist in Williamson County to achieve both Diplomate and Academy membership.

Dr. Cuthbertson first practiced for eight years in Marietta Georgia with his father, concentrating on eye disease treatment and specialty contact lens fitting. Appointments in Georgia include Clinical Director of Low Vision at the Blind and Low Vision Services of North Georgia, where he received a Distinguished Service Award in 1991. He also served as Medical Advisory Chair of Prevent Blindness Georgia, directing sight saving programs for school children and the needy. In 1992, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Marietta City school system.

In 1994, Dr. Cuthbertson moved to Franklin and opened Grassland Eyecare to move back to a smaller office atmosphere concentrating on highest quality products and good old fashioned customer service. Luxury eyewear lines and over a thousand frame eyewear selection was created to give customers a wide mix of prices and selection.
In 2000 our office was renamed Eyedentity because of our strength in eyewear selection, and for over fifteen years, our mission has been to provide state of the art eyecare with experience and advanced equipment in a quiet, well managed compassionate environment that promotes lifelong relationships.
Dr. Cuthbertson’s appointments in Tennessee include Past President of the Middle Tennessee Optometric Association, State Chairman for Vision USA, and Board Trustee in the Tennessee Optometric Association. He has been inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, and has twice received the Optometric Recognition Award from the American Optometric Association for Excellence in Continuing Education.

Dr. Cuthbertson has always given back to our community, as we all should. He regularly examines and provides free glasses for referrals from many local agencies and schools, and he is in his sixth year of a very successful program with Graceworks Ministries called "Our Master's Eyes" where Eyedentity has donated over $70,000 in free eye exam services and glasses for those in need in Williamson County.

Dr. Cuthbertson has been married for 28 years, and is the father of three college age boys. He loves to spend family time boating, going to church, and taking weekend and day trips to state parks hiking and exploring new, out of the way places.

I have spent all my life in optical, from making glasses in my father’s office as a kid to working and learning from his 50 years of experience. I have now practiced over 25 years in my own office, and there is no substitute for experience and a lifelong commitment to learning all you can to help people’s eyes and improving their look and lifestyle. I love what I do every day, and I sincerely hope that you will allow us the privilege of working with you. I am proactive, preventative, and I strive to provide the easiest, most user-friendly, and advanced eyecare technology available to care for you and your family. Don't hesitate to e-mail me with any questions that I might assist you with in making your eye care provider decision and I look forward to working with you soon!

William Y. Cuthbertson, OD, FAAO
